Hot Tub Cleaning

It may go without saying but your hot tub needs a good cleaning every once in a while. From cleaning hot tub filters to cleaning hot tub covers, there are a plethora of hot tub cleaning tips out there to help make the task that much easier.

There are also many different hot tub cleaning products available. It is important that you use hot tub cleaning chemicals and hot tub cleaning supplies when performing these tasks. Some household cleaners will work fine, but using a specific hot tub filter cleaning solution, for instance, will ensure that you have the right tools for the job.

Hot tub filter cleaning (and hot tub cleaning in general) is really quite simple. It will take some time but when you are done, your hot tub will look brand new once again. Moreover, cleaning is a form of preventative maintenance that will keep your hot tub working optimally for years to come.

📌 Use a hot tub cleaner before draining. It may seem logical to drain your hot tub first. But that will actually come next. First, apply a jet cleaner into your hot tub and give it time to properly circulate. This kind of cleaner works to get into the pipes and other components, providing a thorough cleaning experience. Thankfully, this really only needs to be done every couple of years.

📌 Drain and clean the surface. Now that you have addressed the pipes, jets, and other internal components, it is time to focus on the surface of the tub. This is not quite as simple as it would seem. Start by first completely draining the hot tub.

📌 Next, use a soft sponge or damp cloth. If you don’t have access to specific hot tub cleaning products, denatured alcohol or distilled vinegar will work in a pinch. They are strong enough to break down the grime that can build up without doing damage to the surfaces of your hot tub.

Do not use abrasive cleaners. If you do opt to go with a household cleaning agent, do not use a product that has an abrasive in it. It can wear down and dull the smooth, shiny surface of the hot tub.

📌 Refill and test. When you have properly cleaned your hot tub, refill it, turning the thermostat to minimum or “Cold”. This is so you can test out the jets and pumps to ensure that they are working. If all is good, set the thermostat to its normal setting.

📌 Balance the pH. This is the part of the process that can take a few days. There are alkalinity and pH balancing kits for hot tubs that will ensure that the water is properly balanced. You can also add start-up chemicals to ensure a smoother balancing.
